White House Threatens To Veto Democrat Plan To Criminalize Private Gun Sales

If Democrat’s pass legislation to criminalize private gun sales, the bill will be dead on arrival when it reaches President Trump’s desk,  the White House warned Monday.

Democrats are set to vote this week on H.R.8,  a universal background check measure that would outlaw private gun sales and criminalize a friend who sells a gun to a lifelong friend without getting government permission.

The bill would also make it illegal to sell a gun to a neighbor an individual has known for decades unless government permission is sought.

The White House released a “Statement of Administration Policy,” making it clear the Trump administration will veto any attempts of Democrat firearm criminalization.

“H.R. 8 would require that certain transfers, loans, gifts, and sales of firearms be processed by a federally licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer of firearms,” The White House stated. “H.R. 8 would, therefore, impose permanent record-keeping requirements and limitless fees on these everyday transactions. H.R. 8 contains very narrow exemptions from these requirements, and their exemptions would not sufficiently protect the Second Amendment right of individuals to keep and bear arms.”

“If H.R. 8, or H.R. 1112, are presented to the President, his advisors would recommend he veto the bill,” the statement concludes.

Democrats named their gun control bill H.R.8 to honor the Gabby Giffords for surviving the attack on her eight years ago. Ironically, H.R.8 would not have stopped the attack on Giffords as her gunman acquired his firearm via a background check.

Opponents of H.R 8 contend background checks are worthless unless they are paired with a national gun registry, which would violate the Second Amendment rights and only present a significant obstacle for those trying to defend themselves.  The legislation, they argue, would not have prevented recent mass shootings, such as the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., in which the gunman passed a background check.

Over the last 20 years,  nearly all the perpetrators of the deadliest mass shooting in the United States have shared one of two traits: Besides killing innocents with firearms, they either were Muslims or were using mind-altering psychiatric drugs.
