There is no disputing that the Dem’s are scrambling for reasons that America should ‘un-elect’ President Trump in 2020.
As the Mueller witch hunt draws to its inevitable conclusion of the fact that Trump most assuredly did not collude with anyone except his campaign staff to win the election in 2016, the Dem’s are left in near paralysis to find a topic they can campaign on.
Apparently, after analyzing former Presidential contender and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders ability to fill large facilities with his promises of everything from a new sports car in the driveway, a prime rib in the oven and free everything, the Dem’s are taking a page out of his campaign book. The first to do this was the new poster-child for socialism from the Bronx in New York City.
Our newest outspoken Democrat Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her election by implementing Sanders “free-everything” talking points and low and behold ‘it worked.’ Now the rest of the pack (meaning the 2020 Democrat candidates) have glommed onto the ‘free everything messaging’ in the hopes that they too can bring home the blue ribbon in November of 2020.
Senator Kamala Harris (D-Ca) was one of the first Presidential hopefuls to go full-tilt on “Free Medicare for all Americans,” in her hopes of attracting followers and donors to her campaign. She is not alone — now Senator Elizabeth Warren — of course Bernie is not to be left out, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), former Secretary of HUD Julian Castro, and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) are also touting free healthcare for Americans and those scrambling to get into the United States from the Mexican border.
Noted Economist Milton Friedman is widely known for using the phrase “There ain’t no free lunch.” That seems to be the case here. Because of the rush to pass out free healthcare in many of this crop of Democrat candidates, economist, and high-end bean counters have been running a tape of just how deep the cost will be to the American taxpayer or the debt bond purchasers. The universal number seems to be in the range of $25-35 Trillion added to our already crushing national debt load.
However, the Democrat “Freebies” don’t stop there. Bernie Sanders, and at least Kamala Harris are already on the trail promising ‘free education’ from birth through a 4-year degree at a University. Not to worry though, this is only going to cost the taxpayer a paltry $47-50 Billion a year. That is only adding around $500 Billion over the next ten years.
Here is the small issue with all of the free stuff.
Somebody is going to have to pay for it. The bigger problem for conservatives and the President is, these (borrowing a Limbaugh analogy) “skulls full of mush” (referring to young people) buy into this as you have a United States Senator, or Governor, or Congressman touting it. They believe it because an authoritarian figure is promising it, therefore it can be done. The second problem is; they will vote in the next election if they think they can get a free college education.
Worse yet, Senator Kamala Harris is now promising a monthly check to “all middle-class” families of $500.00 a month. She plans to pay for it by wiping out President Trump’s $1.5 Trillion dollar tax reduction that he signed shortly after becoming President. While yes, much of that tax cut was directed toward business; it was done to attract many of the corporations back to America that had moved overseas over the past ten-years or so.
One was a company by the name of Foxconn who promised President Trump (if they received a tax break) to relocate several of the manufacturing facilities to the United States. This is a company that employees tens of thousands of employees in Taiwan China and is willing to build a plant in Wisconsin and invest over $4.1 Billion into the Wisconsin economy.
Most economists insist that for Democrat “free for all” will mean a 50% tax rate for the middle-class and much higher for higher income families and companies.
While Bernie spouts glowing reviews of successful socialist nations such as Denmark, Sweden, and others, one must remember a key factor.
Yes, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and many other European nations do fairly well under a socialist type of system for their healthcare and well being, a couple of major points need to be made.
1. These nations have very small populations in contrast to the United States. IE: New Zealand, for instance, has fewer people than the city of Chicago. Sweden only has 10.2 million residents, while Denmark is a little less than 5.8 million.
2. None of these nations have to pay for a major military to protect them. The United States bears the cost of $13-Billion for an aircraft carrier. We pay for the F-35’s, F-22’s, and F-18’s that protect their skies. They only pay a very small fraction of their gross domestic product to NATO, where we absorb much of that cost.
Do not also forget that in Sweden your projected income tax rate for 2020 will be in the range of 62% for a middle-class household. This is the part that Bernie neglects to tell his potential voters when he espouses how great it is in the Nordic nations.
I have to believe that this Presidential cycle, the American people are going to see through this rouse of “free everything” for everyone. American’s knows that in the end; there is no free lunch and somebody has to pay, and hopefully they will reject this new political philosophy of “saddle up to the bar, it’s all free.”
